Handan Özcan, who completed her master's degree in brand management at Sabancı University, worked in design and communication agencies in the field of brand management. In 2019, with the contribution of her previous experiences, she decided to chart a new course for herself and opened the doors of this world to rediscover the traditional Anatolian weaving she learned in her childhood from her grandmother, who was an old weaver, and founded a design brand that bears her own name, taking inspiration from the unique dynamism of our inner world and nature itself.
Based on the fact that we all strive to improve our unique living spaces, the brand's priority is to differentiate itself from the mass production logic's single-type product approach and offer a new decoration experience that includes craftsmanship and design, while aiming to produce without harming nature as much as possible. Adopting ethical production as a principle in the modern world where the frequency of use of raw materials obtained from oil and plastic has increased, Handan Loomworks uses natural fibers in all its weavings and produces limited numbers of each product, believing in the power of slow fashion without being a part of the excessive consumption cycle. All weavings, designed by Handan Özcan, are produced on handlooms by local female craftsmen.
Handan Özcan, who attaches importance to each design she creates being unique, emphasizes that one of the features that make her designs stand out is that they are different from the traditional motifs that come to mind when it comes to Anatolian weaving, with a more refined and minimal line, a playground between colors and textures, and as a designer who also knows production techniques, she can use textures in designs as required by the technique.
Working with women craftsmen who have been doing traditional weaving in their villages for years, with the motivation to contribute to women's employment within the framework of sustainability and ethical production principles, Handan Loomworks also meets its users in the United States, Dubai, Spain and England, in addition to Turkey.
